The 8WP Diary: Bringing sweet back!

Written By Unknown on Thursday, 27 July 2017 | 13:08

We’re officially past halfway…

For those of you who’ve been following the 8-Week Program with us, congrats for sticking with it and sailing past the halfway point. Went quickly huh?

But now that you’ve successfully ditched sugar and recalibrated your palette (read more about that here), you might be thinking, okay – now what?

Well, the good news is, week six is when you begin to add a little sweetness back into your diet. While that doesn’t mean you have permission to restock your 3pm choc stash, it does mean it’s time to check in with yourself, try some sweeter foods and see how it feels.

Ash says: “For the last couple of weeks I’ve been super excited about reaching this point to reintroduce some fruit into my diet. Funnily enough though, I’ve found that I’m not even craving it! In saying that however, when someone whipped up a tasty dark chocolate tart for an office birthday celebration, it was nice to indulge without the guilt. And, despite only containing a little rice malt syrup, it definitely tasted super sweet. Following the Program has also become second nature and I’m spending far less time in the kitchen sweating about what to whip up for dinner!”

Phoebe says: “Like Ash, I was super excited to get a lil’ sweetness back in my life – I had a few blueberries and wow! They were so sweet and juicy, they blew me away. So, I’m convinced my palate has in fact been recalibrated which just goes to show that I was being overloaded with sugar before the Program, I just didn’t know it. This week I’ve also had a MASSIVE energy spike. I’ve been going to the gym during the Program but not really “feeling it”, just going through the motions (I’m sure you all know what I mean). But now, I’m smashing my training and my goals, all thanks to sugar not holding me back. Woohoo!

Best bits: Dish of the week was undoubtedly the Bangkok Coconut Fish Curry! We’ll probably have to have a repeat next week…

Sugar-free struggles: For some reason, it’s been a super busy social week and I’ve had a couple of nights where I’ve been invited out for dinner. While I’ve definitely made an effort to choose low-sugar options off the menu, it has meant that as I’m not cooking at home every night, I’ve got a fair few extra veg left over in the fridge. Hello, veggie soup!
