What to bring when you’re told not to bring a thing

Written By Unknown on Thursday, 19 May 2016 | 20:38

We’re not about to spruik Cadbury Favourites, funnily enough.

But if you have been invited to a party, dinner or barbecue, it’s not always easy to find a modest and tasty plate to share that’s also sugar-free. And it doesn’t help when your well-meaning friend says “don’t bring a thing” (of course, we have to bring something).

Cue these recipes to the rescue! They’re easy, quick and real crowd pleasers (even for the hardcore sugar-fiend!). They’ll also ensure you won’t go hungry at a particularly sugar-filled party.

1. Me want cookie.

A plate of any of these will send party guests om-nom-nomming faster than you can say Cookie Monster. Mocha Chip Cookies bring an adult sophistication, Lemon Coconut Cookies are vegan so everyone can enjoy, and sugar-free Tim Tams will make everyone freak out (in a good way).

2. Go nuts.

Everyone mills around the nut bowl while waiting for the main course. Go savoury with Bacon + Rosemary Almonds, sticky-sweet with Vanilla Caramel Macadamias or bring some sourdough bread and olive oil for dipping in our delicious Macadamia + Lemon Myrtle Dukkah.

Foolproof with tortilla chips, Roast Root Hummus and Super Speedy Guacamole add much needed spice to any party. And Spiced Bacon Jam will send up gasps of awe around the room. “Bacon jam?” Yep!

4. Bark up the right tree.

If you want to bring dessert but don’t want to upstage the host, barks are your best bet. From Sarah’s famous Raspberry Ripple to salted caramel-y Almond Butter Bark to nostalgic Nut-Ella Crunch Bark, these bad boys only take minutes to prep and freeze.

5. Last minute invite? Go for gummies.

If you’re seriously pressed for time (and ingredients!) then gelatin is your new best friend. Coconut Marshmallows and Raspberry Gummies are done in two easy steps, while Lamington Gummies are slightly more fiddly (but so worth it).
