We’ve all witnessed a mealtime temper tantrum and the tears that follow at one time or another…
And, fighting with your little one about the importance of eating their greens is the last thing you feel like doing after a long day at work, we know!
So to bring a little more peace to your family dinners, here are our top tips on how to get your fussy eater to enjoy mealtimes again.
Get them hands-on in the kitchen.
We know the thought of getting your kids cooking seems super messy, but we promise it can be super rewarding too. Not only will they learn new kitchen skills, but it can help them learn to count and read along with a recipe too. Plus, when they see where their food comes from and put effort into whipping up a delicious meal, they’ll appreciate their food a little more!
Hide the veg!
The Australian dietary guidelines recommend that kids eat between two and five serves of veg a day, but recent studies show that more than half of little ones don’t get that many in. If your child just turns their nose up at the site of veg, it might be time to start hiding it… Try dishes like our Fluffy Carrot Mousse – it’s perfect as a side dish (or even as a dessert!) and they won’t even suspect it’s packed with the good stuff.
Or, go for green eggs and ham…
Making food fun is a great way to get your kids to be excited about their meals. You could tell them that our Green Bacon + Egg Cupcakes are straight from the pages of their fave Dr Seuss book, or that our Nutty Teeth snack were sent from their fave dinosaur! It could be just the spark they need to get munching.
Cook things they want to eat.
If you get your little ones to help you choose meals before you hit the shops, then they’ll know what’s on the menu and you could even find they have a new favourite food! Make sure you get them to choose a sugar-free sweet treat too so they have something to look forward too when after dinner. Raspberry Ripple, perhaps?
