New year, new you… right?
Well actually, we think the best time to start any new health goal is RIGHT NOW.
Yep, you read right – why wait until the new year to set new goals when you could start today? Here are some small goals you could tick off right now so you set foot into the new year, as your new you.
Drink more water.
Staying adequately hydrated is essential and everything from your heart health, to your brain function and even your body’s ability to carry nutrients to your cells, is all impacted by the amount of water you’re sipping on. So if you’re going to do ONE thing to improve your health before the new year, increase your water intake. Arm yourself with a reusable bottle, pop some herbs or berries in there and sip away throughout the day.
Kickstart your fitness.
Move that booty today! The key to this one is to pick an activity you enjoy and do it every single day. It could be going for a stroll with your friends, a swim in the surf or even cycling to your Christmas party. No matter what it is, get your bod moving for at least 30 minutes each day to help combat type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease – not to mention exercise works wonders for your mental health too. Win, win!
Cut back on the sweet stuff.
Sugar is hiding everywhere and very quickly you could be eating over 34 teaspoons a day without even realising it! Lucky for you, by making some simple swaps you can ditch that sugar and not even miss it… kombucha, anyone?
Be more mindful.
If you’ve been go, go, go for the last year, the holidays are the perfect time for a little reflection and to remind yourself to stay present and mindful. As you go about your daily tasks, switch off autopilot and pay full attention to the world around you. Better yet? Work some mindfulness practices into your day to boost relaxation and set you up for a calmer start to the new year.
Embrace gratitude.
You don’t just have to show gratitude when you open your presents on Christmas morning! Being grateful for the simple things has proven physical and mental health benefits. Our wellbeing expert, Carla Thomas, reflects on her day each night and makes a note of everything she’s thankful for. You could start a journal of all the things you’re grateful for and kick off 2018 on the most positive note yet!
