Did you know a third of Christmas turkeys end up in the bin?!

Written By Unknown on Monday, 25 December 2017 | 19:03

Yep, a third of all turkeys purchased in the UK are headed straight for the bin… and that’s before they’ve even been cooked!

Not to mention that after Chrissy dinner in Australia, nearly one in five shopping bags worth of leftovers will end up in the rubbish too! Say what?!

So now that the big day’s been and gone, here are our top tips on how to minimise food waste and love your leftovers!

Store your food correctly.

First things first, you’ve got to store your leftovers correctly so they don’t go off. Luckily, we covered this just the other day, so check out the best way to keep that meat moist and those veggies fresh. And remember, if you don’t think you’re going to get around to eating your way through all that food, your best bet is to pop it in the freezer.

Use ‘em up…

What better way to use up all those leftovers than to cook something new? Aside from turkey sandwiches, any of these delish dishes will work a treat with that extra turkey (or whatever meat you have!).

Turkey San Choy Bow.

If you’ve blown out a tad during the big day, this fresh dish will be just what you need. Swap the turkey mince out for your shredded leftovers, drizzle with tamari, fish sauce and lime juice and get munching!

Leftover Roast Stuffin’ Muffins.

What do you do with all that extra stuffing? Glad you asked because these muffins are to die for! They’re the perfect way to use up your stuffing, meat and extra veg all in one hit. But you better be quick, they’ll be swiped up FAST!

Spring Chicken Pie.

We’ve made this pie with chicken, but feel free to swap in whatever meat you have in the fridge, not to mention any leftover veggies too. With a creamy sauce and topped off with crunchy pastry, this is our go-to Boxing Day dinner.

Boxing Day fridge clean out.

We’d definitely recommend doing a foodie-style clean out on Boxing Day to make sure there’s nothing going rotten in the back of the fridge you don’t know about. Pull all your leftovers out onto the bench and decide what’s going in the pie, those muffins and what’s headed for the freezer, so you can minimise waste and make your food go further. Ta-da!
