3 salads to avoid when eating out this summer

Written By Unknown on Tuesday, 28 November 2017 | 10:02

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but your go-to salad may actually be chock-full of sugar and other nasties.

We love salad. In fact, we’ve got a bunch of tasty recipes on our blog. But, when you order your fave salad at your local cafe, you could be in for a sneaky surprise. And, it’s usually the sauce or dressing that’s to blame!

1. Caesar salad.

While this humble salad is undoubtedly popular, it isn’t doing your health any favours. And the biggest offender? The dressing! The thick, white goop is usually packed with refined oils, sugar and additives  – not what you want to be eating! Instead, try whipping up our Caesar salad at home. Our dressing is filled with healthy fats and none of the sweet stuff.

2. Thai beef salad.

While the core ingredients of a Thai beef salad might be okay, again, the dressing is what ruins it. Commercial varieties are often filled with canola oil, sugar and soy sauce. But, don’t miss out on this scrumptious salad… simply make your own.

3. Any salad with a creamy dressing or vinaigrette.

Put simply, any salad that comes swimming in a heavy sauce or vinaigrette is a no-go – hello, potato salad and coleslaw! Same goes for any salad that’s bathing in balsamic or vinaigrette as many of these are also stuffed with the sweet stuff. Instead, opt for plain extra virgin olive oil when you’re out and about and make your own healthier (sugar-free) versions when you’re at home.
