We showed you which supermarket dip is worthy of your chip. Now we going crackers for crackers!
The supermarket aisles are literally bursting with crackers, wafers and mini crispbreads waiting to grace your next cheese platter. But a lot of them are crammed with number additives, vegetable oils and more sugar than you’d expect!
Don’t worry though, there are some supermarket crackers out there that are worthy of your Danish Blue or homemade baba. From chewy super seeds to crunchy pita bits, these are six of the best options we could find.
(Our CEO and resident cheese connoisseur Zoe has even suggested some cheese pairings!)
Mary’s Gone Crackers Super Seed Crackers. $7.50 for 155g.
The whole office has gone crackers for these! They come with seven types of grains and seeds, making them super crunchy and super tasty. Plus, all the ingredients are ethically sourced and organic.
Meagan, operations manager: CRRRR-UNCH! These crackers pack a crunchy punch. With plenty of flavour and great ingredients, I think these are my got-to cracker from now on!
Zoe’s cheese paring: ANYTHING. You can even eat this naked (the biscuit, not you).
Eat Rite Wholegrain Brown Rice Tamari Seaweed Crackers. $3.70 for 100g.
Rice varieties might dominate the cracker aisle, but most of them are completely full of crap. We love that these ones only have three ingredients, all listed in the name!
Rachel, writer: “So often rice crackers are over-seasoned and over-salty (hello, Fantastic). I love the simplicity of these.”
Zoe’s cheese paring: “Perfect with a wedge of vintage Cheddar and a pickled onion.”
Paradise Beach Wholemeal Pita Bits. $5.99 for 120g.
A lot of pita and lavosh style crackers have surprising amounts of sugar for such a savoury bite. But these ones come in at only a little over half a gram per serve. There’s no other nasties hiding in them, either.
Camilla, senior writer and editor: “The packet says these are ‘perfect with dips and cheese’. With a very little flavour of their own and a great crunch, they definitely deliver on the promise!”
Zoe’s cheese paring: “Would pair well with a big strong bitey something. Make mine a Danish Blue.”
Kitz Fresh Herb Crackers. $8.75 for 100g.
There’s no denying Kitz is a pretty special cracker. Fragrant and flavourful, they’re gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan with no weird ingredients in sight. But at the price, you’d want to keep them for pretty special occasions.
Hannah, recipe development assistant: “I’m loving all the seeds in here. It has an unexpected chewy texture, which is great!”
Zoe’s cheese pairing: “Try a triple cream brie that’s been getting nice ‘n’ gooey for a few hours.”
Tucker’s Natural Quinoa Crackers. $3.99 for 100g.
We like the creative use of rolled oats, cracked freekeh and quinoa in these crackers. We just wish they’d opted for olive oil over rice bran oil. They’re also higher in sugar than the others, but we think that might be mostly lactose coming from the skim milk powder.
Matt, programs coordinator: “These have quite a subtle flavour and a soft crunch. They’d make an easy pair for lots of different toppings.”
Zoe’s cheese pairing: “Go a sharp goat cheese and a dash of Cobram olive oil.”
Fantastic Goodies Sesame, Poppy, Sunflower and Mustard Seeds Rice Crackers. $2.50 for 100g.
We can’t knock a big brand like Fantastic for trying to bring the “Goodies” to a healthy rice cracker. But while they’re a lot better than a lot of the other supermarket rice options out there, we’d still like to see less sunflower oil and salty powdered flavours.
Lee, social media manager: “Snap, crackle and a strangely bitter pop!”
Kate, programs manager: “Slightly nutty. Very salty! Not sure I could eat a whole lot of them.”

This is not a sponsored post. We bought, tried and tested all these products here at IQS HQ and didn’t receive any incentives from any of the brands to review them in a particular light.
