Nowadays, life gets so busy that we’re not surprised that more than half of Australian adults skip breakfast.
It’s also not surprising that breakfast convenience foods are surging the market – we’re looking at you, Up&Go and Belvita. But before you reach for these processed and oversugared nasties, here are five delicious and healthy breakfast recipes that you can prepare in five minutes or less. No kidding!
1. Eggy Muggins
Scrambled eggs are even simpler with this speedy, no-stove-top recipe. Simply whisk a couple of eggs with your favourite green veggies in a microwavable mug for a toteable breakfast packed with protein and good fats.
2. Strawberry Avocado Toastie
Your local cafĂ© may do a mean avo smash, but does their version come with goats feta and strawberries? We didn’t think so.
We also doubt they’ll deliver it to your table as quickly as this dish comes together.

3. Green Goddess Smoothie
For a real “Boost” to your morning, minus the sugar-crash of these commercial versions, make your own smoothie. This one is a sweet yet powerful mixture of healthy greens and it can be whizzed together in under five minutes. We’re willing to bet that’s shorter than the line at the local smoothie bar.
4. Tahini, Banana + Cacao Nib Toast
While the sneaky sugar content means most traditional versions are a big banan-no, this recipe from the I Quit Sugar: Healthy Breakfast Cookbook is one you can feel good tucking into. All you need is four ingredients, two minutes and one hungry mouth to feed.
5. Chive, Kale + Parmesan Pancakes with Poachies
If you prefer a savoury start to the day these pancakes are perfect. The batter comes together in seconds and only needs 4–5 minutes to cook. And conveniently that’s exactly how long you need to poach a couple of eggs at the same time.
