How to feast (without falling off the wagon!)

Written By Unknown on Tuesday, 19 December 2017 | 10:02

You totally can feast (with more than just your eyes!) during the festive season while living the sugar-free life. Promise.

Don’t believe us? Well, with Christmas day just five days away, we’re here to show you what to reach for at your celebratory meal.

For snacks, choose nuts, olives or make our socettes.

We can all think of a time when we’ve accidentally filled up on pre-dinner snacks because we sat waaay too close to the food table! So, step one is to put a lil’ distance between yourself and the snacks! That doesn’t mean you need to miss out completely, simply arm yourself with a handful of satiating nuts or antioxidant-packed olives. Better yet? Bring some socettes to the party (AKA mini socca).

These delish mini pancakes are made from chickpea flour, and they’re perfect as canapés. Top them with leek, apple and rosemary or try goats cheese and cherry tomatoes – just be prepared to fight off your guests for them…

During your main meal, fill up on veggies and protein first.

We’ve talked before about the importance of filling up on veggies first so you don’t overeat, so whip up this delish (not to mention festive) Sweet Potato Casserole. The flavour combo of vanilla and cinnamon paired with the sweet potato makes this a rich and fluffy dish that seems naughty, but is oh-so-nourishing.

Protein is the next thing to pop on your plate, and our “Maple-Glazed” Ham will do the trick. It’s no secret that traditionally glazes are packed with sugar, but we’ve managed to keep that amazing sweet flavour, without the nasties. Dig in!

For dessert, make cheese your BFF.

Who doesn’t love a cheeseboard? Pass on the sugary Christmas pud and go straight for satiating cheese instead. If you have time to whip up a sugar-free cake, try our Upside-Down Sticky Plum Christmas Cake – it’s packed with a tasty warming spice blend of cardamom and cinnamon, plus the sweet plums will go down a treat (even for the sugar-lovers among us).

If you do fall off the wagon, don’t panic! Simply get straight back on again the next day. Or, sign up to our next 8-Week Program which kicks off on January 4. If that’s not perfect timing, we don’t know what is!
