How to avoid the dreaded Boxing Day sugar hangover…

Written By Unknown on Saturday, 23 December 2017 | 10:03

You don’t have to totally gorge on Christmas Day…

In fact, we’ve been dropping tips and tricks all month about how to make it through the silly season alive and with your sugar-free intentions intact.

But, if you do find yourself overindulging, you might find you wake up on Boxing Day with a pounding sugar hangover – headache, cravings and mood swings included. Ah, the joys of sugar… Instead, memorise these tips for the big day and keep those sugar hangovers to a minimum!

Don’t sip on the sweet stuff.

A recent study showed that Australians’ alcohol intake triples over the silly season – that’s bad news for your sugar intake and your waistline! We know that cutting back on the booze is easier said than done when Aunt Mary is pushing a sugary cocktail into your hand, but try sticking to low-fructose sips such as dry red wine and white spirits (minus the soft drink mixer). Better yet? Whip up a batch of our sugar-free Espresso Martinis for everyone. Yum!

Swap out that pesky sugar.

Put simply, the easiest way to avoid a sugar hangover, is to not eat the sweet stuff! Instead, swap out added sugar for our go-to sweeteners of stevia and rice malt syrup, and where you can, opt for natural sweeteners like cinnamon, coconut and sweet potato. Don’t turn up empty handed though – our Sugar-Free Christmas Cake will go down a treat with everyone.

Stay hydrated.

Believe it or not, sugar dehydrates your bod and can contribute to that pounding headache. Combat this by sipping water throughout the day – you could even spice up your water with a little fruit, herbs or tea to make it more appealing. If you’re drinking alcohol, make every second bevvy a glass of water to help your liver and kidneys keep ticking along nicely. Trust us, your body will thank you in the morning!

Get right back on the bandwagon…

If you do have a lil’ more sugar than expected, don’t panic. Start your Boxing Day with a big glass of water (pop some apple cider vinegar in there to help detox your liver), eat a hearty brekkie and get straight back on the sugar-free wagon. Better yet, join our next 8-Week Program which kicks off on January 4 – perfect timing.
