Swap these 7 junk foods for our tastier (healthier!) alternatives

Written By Unknown on Tuesday, 21 November 2017 | 10:06

Next time a comfort food craving sneaks up on you, why not try a healthier alternative?

By swapping the “junk food” out for a more nutrient-dense option, you’re less likely to experience the negative side effects of eating copious amounts of sugar and trans fats.

While we’re not suggesting you go gung-ho and gorge on these tasty treats daily, feel free to enjoy them every now and then – guilt-free! Bear in mind too, when using RMS as a sweetener, we aim for half a teaspoon per serve. And where possible, we try to remove the sweetener altogether.

1. Lamingtons.

It would be un-Australian of us not to have a good ol’ lamington recipe in our archives. And these are even better than the original. It’s a big call we know, but try them out and see for yourself!

2. Popcorn chicken.

No need to visit the Colonel to get your hit of spicy chicken. These are seriously delicious and are super easy to make. Don’t get put off by the 60 minute prep time either – that includes the 30 minutes it takes to marinate the chicken.

3. Chocolate bickies.

Sometimes a cuppa will not do without a chocolate biscuit to accompany it. When that happens, these are the answer. And, the best part? You can drink your tea through these biscuits – just like the original!

5. Ice cream.

This take on the famous Aussie ice cream is a winner. Not only is it full of nourishing fats but it contains zero unwanted additives. Enjoy these on a hot summer’s day!
