- Thousands of NZ schools kids will be breath-tested as part of a new study to reveal the link between fructose and childhood obesity.
- One-third of Kiwi schools kids are now obese.
- And, one in five kids living in low socioeconomic areas are overweight.
Turns out, breath testing isn’t just for alcohol.
Around 2,000 students from more than 40 schools around New Zealand, are to be breath-tested as part of an innovative study which aims to explore the link between fructose and childhood obesity.
By measuring hydrogen levels in breath, the rate that fructose is absorbed from the gut into the blood can be calculated to explore if there is a link between fructose and obesity. Clever stuff!
Good on you NZ for tackling childhood obesity head on.
