- Woolworths and Coles have just announced they’ll BOTH be phasing out plastic bags across Australia in the next 12 months.
- Currently, the supermarket giants dish out over 3.2 billion lightweight bags EVERY YEAR.
- This decision means NSW, Victoria and WA will join South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT who have already farewelled plastic bags!
At IQS, we love a good news story and today, we got one!
These supermarket giants have just announced that they will be waving goodbye to single-use plastic bags – #BanTheBag.
The Woolworths Groups was first to announce the ban for all their stores including Woolworths supermarkets, online shopping, Big W and BWS. Their other stores, Dan Murphy’s and Cellarmasters, have already boarded the no-plastic-bag train!
Just hours later, Coles followed up saying they’ll also be getting rid of plastic bags.
A big win for the war on waste. Time to stock up on those reusable bags!
At the time of posting this article, Harris Farm had just announced on their Facebook page they’ll be scrapping plastic bags from January 1, 2018.
We’ll keep you posted with any updates.
