5 healthy snacks to make yourself (+ never buy again!)

Do you ever rush into the supermarket, desperate for a snack and kick yourself for buying something you could have easily made at home?

On the weekend, when we do our Sunday Cook-Up, we also love to prep some easy snacks to get us through those 11am coffee breaks and 3pm sugary slumps.

Here are our go-to quick ‘n’ easy snacks, that you’ll never have to buy again!

1. Hummus.

For all the tahini-lovers out there, this one’s for you! Not only is hummus delish, but it’s high in protein and dairy-free. Plus, it’s super versatile – smother it on toast, crackers or even dunk in your carrot sticks (we keep a stash in the fridge for easy access!). Even better? Our Foolproof Hummus is ready in just five minutes. We couldn’t even run to the supermarket that quick!

2. Kale chips.

Believe it or not, you can buy kale chips in a packet. But, we’re not really sure why you would when they’re so simple to make. Chop your kale, add some oil and salt and then pop them in the oven until they’re crispy enough for you. They’ll keep for five days in an airtight container so make sure to prep enough to get you through your work week.

3. Muesli bars.

Muesli bars are often people’s number one grab-and-go snack. But, even the “healthy” ones are PACKED with sugar, not to mention those single wrappers drive us nuts too. Making your own is cheaper and way better for the environment, so what’s not to love? Plus, this Sweet and Salty Granola Slice is a party for your taste buds.

4. Pesto.

Ever reach into your fridge for that store-bought pesto that’s been in there for years and it hasn’t gone off yet? Well, that’s the preservatives talking. When you make your own however, none of those nasties are needed, and you can add whatever flavours you want. We love basil and spinach, but broccoli and zucchini are great too! Delish as a dip, in your eggs, or smear it on sourdough for a tasty snack.

5. Popcorn.

Popping your own popcorn is fun for the whole family and you can add whatever flavour you love the most. Separate them into ziplock bags and voila! Snack central – without the sugar hit.
