REPORT: How you could ditch 26 teaspoons of sugar today

Written By Unknown on Sunday 23 April 2017 | 18:47

It’s time for the Aussie Government to “stop sugarcoating” our food labels.

A new report from CHOICE proposes new labels that show added sugars as a separate line item to total sugars and group all added sugars together on the ingredients list. (You can read the full proposal here.)

It also suggests we actually depict added sugars as teaspoons on the packet, so consumers can visualise exactly how much of the white stuff is in that tin of Milo or box of Nutri Grain. That’s a change we’ve been behind for years!

Food ministers meet to discuss added sugar labelling later this week. If you believe as much as we do that this is a change worth supporting, add your voice to the cause by signing CHOICE’s petition here. Let’s do this!

Would seeing added sugar in terms of teaspoons make you think twice about certain products?
