Falling off the sugar-free wagon? Here are 5 ways to get back on track

Written By Unknown on Monday 17 April 2017 | 18:04

Falling off the wagon is a completely normal part of quitting sugar.

It starts with a slice of birthday cake or a holiday cocktail too many and you’re suddenly careening towards your old habits at breakneck speed. Been there, done that!

So, what you do when you’re falling off the sugar-free wagon? You get straight back on again – with the help of these easy tips.

1. Have a recalibrating meal.

Breaking out of a junk food cycle can be really tough (especially because it’s so addictive!).

But a refreshing meal full of vegetables, proteins and healthy fats will help curb those cravings and reset your appetite. Plus, it will show you all the delicious goodness you’ve been missing!

2. Cook from scratch.

Cooking is non-negotiable when you’re getting healthy. When you make things from scratch, you eliminate sugar (or, at the very least, you’ll know exactly how much sugar is going into your food).

Besides, cooking is just the best way to fall in love with fresh food again.

3. Read up on sugar science.

It’s hard to drink a can of Coke knowing that it has nine teaspoons of sugar… or that just one can a day can increase your risk of heart disease by 35 per cent.

Read our guide to the sugar science (but we warned – it’s hard to forget!).

4. Keep a rainy day stash.

You know those days when you’re too tired to think, let alone cook?

Batch-cook healthy meals and keep a freezer stash, so all you have to do is press a button on the microwave. It’ll nip impulse to buy takeaway right in the bud!

5. Join the 7-Day Reboot.

Often, a little structure is what’s needed to get you back on your feet. Our new I Quit Sugar: 7-Day Reboot combines all of the above into one mini-program to get you back on the wagon.

Our nutritionist-developed, veggie-packed meal plans reset the appetite and nourish the body. Plus, we’ve bundled it all with Sunday Cook-Ups, sugar science and meal builders to give you to tools to stay sugar-free for good!
