How to become a morning person

Written By Unknown on Monday 5 February 2018 | 14:00

If you’re not already a morning person, it’s not impossible to become one.

Or, at least it’s not impossible to find ways to make mornings a little more bearable! Try implementing these five behaviours and you’ll be feeling positive about mornings in no time.

1. Establish a morning + evening routine.

Having a morning and nighttime routine is really important, especially for those of you who struggle to get out the door come morning time. And, it only takes a few steps to establish these routines, although it takes 66 days to form a habit, so stick with it!

An evening routine should include actions like making your lunch for the next day, preparing what you’re going to wear and making sure all of your possessions, like your laptop, books etc are packed up and ready to go. Then, in the morning, establish a pattern of how you do things, such as waking up at the same time, having a shower and getting dressed before preparing your brekkie. If you continually repeat these actions every day, they will eventually become second-nature and the time it takes to do them will decrease!

2. Exercise first thing.

Getting straight out of bed and doing some sort of exercise is a great way of waking yourself up and, it can easily become a part of your morning routine. Have all of your gear ready to go – outfit picked out and runners at the ready – so you can literally get out of bed, get dressed and go. Going for a walk, run or to the gym is also a great way of starting your morning on a positive note. Plus, you also reduce the risk of putting off exercise because you’re too tired later in the day.

3. Have a simple but nutrient-dense brekkie ready to go.

While we’re not all morning people at IQS, sometimes the thought of brekkie the next day is enough to get us out of bed! We love waking up to a smoothie – which is not only super easy to prepare but you can take it with you to work too. And, you can make your life even easier by creating smoothie bags. Simply pop your smoothie ingredients in a ziplock bag the night before, so the next morning all you have to do is dump the ingredients into the blender along with whatever liquid you’re using and you’re good to go! 4. Make your bedroom a sanctuary for sleep.

Getting quality sleep every night is not only essential for good health, but making sure that your bedroom is a comfortable sanctuary is a simple way to ensure you bounce out of bed come morning time.

5. Stop snoozing.

Hitting snooze on your alarm every morning may be convenient, but it’s also a bad habit. Clicking snooze once can often turn into an hour-long snooze-fest which is a surefire way to make you late. Instead, try setting two alarms five minutes apart. The first alarm is to wake you up and the second is to get you out of bed. Quick and simple!
