Navigate Thanksgiving (so you don’t feel like a stuffed turkey!)

Written By Unknown on Wednesday, 22 November 2017 | 10:01

Happy Thanksgiving IQS family!

What are we thankful for? Well, we’re thankful for such a supportive community that have chosen to join us on their journey to a sugar-free life!

But, as you sit down with your nearest and dearest to celebrate (the first of many we’re sure!) don’t let the sugar-free life slide. Here are our top tips on how to navigate your Thanksgiving feast…

Don’t deprive yourself.

We just want to start by saying, we want you to enjoy yourself. While we aim to eat as little sugar as possible day-to-day, on special occasions we allow for some extra sweetness. So be kind to yourself and feel free to indulge a little – after all, restriction is more likely to lead to you binging!

Prioritise your veg…

While it can be tempting to dive headfirst into the turkey, we’d recommend filling up your plate with veg first. In fact, we think half your plate should be occupied by veggies before you top the rest up with protein, fats and of course, some gravy! To tantalise your taste buds, make sure you bring a delicious veggie dish, like our Sweet Potato Casserole or this Simple Pumpkin Salad.

BYO delish treats.

Of course, after dinner the sweet treats are going to make an appearance! To make sure you don’t blow your sugar intake out of the water, equip yourself with some sugar-free treats. Our Pumpkin-Spice Granola Bark is a Thanksgiving mash-up of two of our fave recipes – Coco-Nutty Granola and Almond Butter Bark – so it’s definitely a winner. In fact, we think it’d pair perfectly with our Espresso Martini.

Stay hydrated.

Make sure to sip enough water throughout the day to stay hydrated (especially if you’re drinking alcohol) and give your kidneys and liver a helping hand at flushing out any extra sugar you may have eaten!
