Honey is 40% fructose, say what?!

Written By Unknown on Tuesday 14 November 2017 | 10:02

Quitting sugar is an eye-opener to a world full of hidden sugars…

Believe it or not, some of the sneakiest culprits are actually those “natural” sugar substitutes –  some even contain more fructose than regular table sugar.

Turns out, honey’s about 40 per cent fructose!

Yep, we hate to break it to you, but honey is roughly 82 per cent sugar, and 40 per cent of that is fructose. Bees set out to collect nectar from plants, which is essentially a super sweet liquid, and after a process of digestion and regurgitation, it’s spread into the honeycomb. Here the water in the nectar evaporates, which pretty much just leaves condensed sugar.

Put simply, as table sugar is 50 per cent fructose, honey is almost like pouring sugar all over your toast!
