Creating a balanced lunchbox for your children everyday can be a difficult task.
Especially when you’re faced with so many pre-packaged options at the supermarket. But, how many of them are actually good for your children? The answer is: not many!
Last year, when Australian consumer group, Choice, looked into the products that are considered to be “lunchbox friendly”, the group analysed more than 260 snack foods and only rated three products as deserving of a top star rating using the Health Star Rating – which, as we’ve discussed in the past, we think is extremely flawed.
The reality is, many of these pre-packaged snacks are loaded with sugar and additives! So, instead of filling your little ones up with these nasties, why not try adding a few kid-friendly recipes to your weekly Sunday Cook-Up?
Bacon + Egg Cupcakes.
Little people need all the energy they can get, so these protein-rich “cupcakes” are the perfect snack for their lunchbox.
Sweet Potato Falafel.
This tasty falafel recipe is a great way to sneak some veggies into your kids. These falafels are baked in the oven, rather than fried in oil, making them a much healthier option.
2-Ingredient Banana Bread Cookies.
We’re calling it – these are the easiest biscuits to make and they’re seriously delicious.
Berry Yoghurt Smoothie.
This smoothie is a great addition to your kids’ lunchbox. The yoghurt used in the recipe makes the smoothie nice and thick so it can be poured into a container and eaten with a spoon!
If you run out of time to prepare dishes like these for your little one, don’t forget, last night’s dinner leftovers also make for a great addition to the lunchbox the next day.
What do you include in your kids’ lunchbox everyday?
