Quitting sugar doesn’t mean you need to break the bank.
In fact, it can mean quite the opposite. At IQS, we’re not only about eating real food, but we LOVE to nab a bargain and eat on the cheap.
These five tips will help you JERF, and still ensure you have some cash to pop in the piggy bank.
1. Buy in bulk.
Visit your local bulk foods store for a pick ‘n’ mix extravaganza. Not only can you buy the exact amount you need, but you can bring your own containers to fill up. Goodbye, plastic wrap. Hello, savings!
2. Pick the imperfect veggies.
Unfortunately, supermarkets haven’t hooked onto the fact that we don’t care what our veggies look like. But, if you look closely, most supermarkets now have a discounted ‘imperfect’ veggie section. And while they may look a lil’ funny (and way cuter), they’ll definitely save you some cash.
3. Shop seasonally.
The easiest way to save money is to buy seasonal produce. Our 8-Week Program is designed with seasonal ingredients in mind, making it the perfect wallet-friendly plan to stick to at any time of the year.
4. Visit your local markets.
Did you know, the reason veggies at the supermarket are so expensive is because they travel thousands of kilometres to reach you? If you buy locally however, not only are products less travelled, but you know you’re getting farm fresh produce which will last longer in your fridge. Win-win!
5. Fill your freezer.
Your freezer is more energy efficient if it’s full (who knew?)! So, once you’ve visited the markets, stock up your freezer. Meat and fruit are best frozen raw, but we suggest par-cooking your veggies before you freeze them. Store produce in glass jars, Pyrex containers or ziplock bags (wash them and re-use them) to help save the planet a little more.
