UK finally confirms sugar tax plans (milkshakes not included!)

Written By Unknown on Monday 5 December 2016 | 18:01

Soft drinks with more than 8g per 100ml will be taxed even higher, at 24p (41c) tax per litre.

With all the changes in UK Government, we’re relieved to see the sugar tax has made it through.

We’re disappointed that pure fruit juice has been left out of the plans, though, along with sugary milk and yoghurt drinks. Apparently because young people aren’t getting enough calcium? Sorry UK Government, but what’s wrong with actual milk?!

(Meanwhile, Ribena says it should also be exempt from the tax because, you know, black currants are sour and you need sugar to stomach them.)

As the UK joins Belgium, France, Hungary and Mexico and seven U.S cities in the the battle against obesity, how long will it be before the Australian Government wakes up and smells the sugary lolly water?
