You asked, we tasted! 5 coconut yoghurts you’ll go nuts for

Written By Unknown on Thursday, 1 September 2016 | 22:57

Coconut yoghurt is both the perfect solution for people who don’t eat dairy AND a divinely decadent dessert. It’s full of satiating fats, giving it a creamy and smooth flavour.

And you guys love coconut yoghurt so much that you asked us to review the different brands (after we compared several sugar-free yoghurts… including goat!). Sidestepping the ones that were obviously full of sugary fruit pureé, we found them all (relatively) low in sugar and added nasties. Here are the coyos we went nuts for.

Nudie Coconut Yoghurt Vanilla, $6.99 for 500g

While we’re not fans of Nudie’s sugary juices, we’re a little obsessed with their coconut yoghurt. For such a big brand, we’re pleasantly surprised that their product contains no nasties and less than half a teaspoon of sugar per 85g serve. It’s also sweet, smooth and the best value.

Matt, programs coordinator: “Is Vanilla Ice in the house? Because this sure does taste like vanilla! Love that you can see the vanilla bean throughout. And that little sour tang at the end.”

Coco Tribe Vanilla Organic Coconut Yoghurt, $6.00 for 300g

Coco Tribe is like a pot of yoghurt gold at the end of the rainbow – it’s pretty hard to find, but it’s so delicious that it could start legends. It has vanilla and rice malt syrup to sweeten it up, but only comes to half a teaspoon of sugar per 50g serve. We really hope these guys start stocking outside of NSW ASAP!

Meg, recipe developer + nutritionist: “Coco Tribe is yoghurt heaven. So creamy, so smooth, and the best dairy alternative you can find! I’ve never had a coconut yoghurt like this, ever!”

NuLac Foods No Udder Coconut Yoghurt, $6.00 for 400g

This yoghurt had just over a teaspoon of sugar per 100g serve – and we could taste a definite sweetness from the sugar. Nonetheless, it’s still a great option for a treat and takes a lot of care to test every batch to keep it dairy-free.

Meagan, operations manager: “This one is so smooth, creamy and sweet, it actually takes me back to Yoplait Petit Miam days in primary school.”

Bondi Natural Non-Dairy Chia Coconut Yoghurt, $3.50 for 150g

We love to buy local, so we couldn’t go past Bondi Natural. We loved the clever addition of chia seeds, but have a look for their cacao and raspberry flavours too (they are all minimally sweetened). Hopefully they will stock outside of NSW and the ACT soon, too!

Rachel, writer: “If you’re looking for a true yoghurt flavour, this one is tops. It’s quite tangy and sour, so it will go really well with some fresh fruit. Instant chia pudding!”

COYO Chocolate Coconut Yoghurt, $9.70 for 350g

This was the priciest yoghurt, but totally worth the extra dosh. Apple juice and coconut nectar take the sugar content over a teaspoon per 100g serve, but this is a dessert and should be treated as such. The coconut yoghurt that started it all, COYO also sells unsweetened versions.

Alyssa, marketing executive: “It tastes JUST like chocolate mousse! But it’s so rich, you wouldn’t be able to eat much.”
