Let’s be frank. Kids’ parties can be one giant sugar crash just waiting to happen.
And like a not-so-sweet gift that keeps on giving, a take-home party bags can have the sugar-fuelled tantrum party going long after the celebrations are over.
Looking to swap out the sweet stuff for other kid-friendly treats in your next party bag? These ideas for sugar-free* party bags are sure to excite the little ones just as much!
1. Whip up a batch of Tam Tims.
Chocolatey, chewy with a crumbly crunch, this one’s every Aussie kid’s favourite chocolate biscuit… but better! (PSA for mums and dads: you can still drink your tea through one!)
2. Add a little colour.
Grab some recycled paper and print off some coloring pages that suit your party theme. Chuck in a small box of pencils from the $2 store and get those little creative brains working.
3. Up the spook-factor with Speckled Sour Gummy Worms.
See you later, you sugary, sherbet-y, snakes from the lolly aisle! These kiwifruit-flavoured gummy worms taste just as great (and don’t come with the inevitable sugar crash).
Pop into the craft shop for some brightly coloured wool and plait friendship bracelets for all the party goers. You can add charms and beads if you’re feeling extra creative.
This also doubles as a fun party activity which the kids can DIY.
5. Go coconuts for Coconut “Marshmallows”.
That’s right, not all marshmallows are chock full of the sweet stuff. But little mouths and little guts are still sure to gobble them up!
6. Play nice with Play Doh.
Make a batch of homemade Play Doh for the kids to take home.
Simply add 1 cup water, 1 tablespoon olive oil and a few drops of food colouring to 2 cups plain flour and 1 cup salt. Knead to combine and you’ve got yourself some Play Doh people!
