Ever wondered if you should try gelatin?

When it comes to gelatin, it’s no secret that the IQS crew are the biggest fans.

From bulletproof coffee to panna cotta, cookies and gummies – we’re forever in the kitchen whipping up something delicious. But if you’re new to gelatin and curious about how it could benefit you, this article from our founder and director, Sarah, explains exactly why adding a little gelatin to your diet could be just the healthy ticket you’ve been searching for…

I’ve banged on about just how good this stuff is for you before. If you ask me, everyone can benefit from a little Gut Lovin’ – but if any of the symptoms below sound familiar to you, look no further. Gelatin is your new best friend.

1. If you’ve got acne.

Gelatin contains the essential amino acid proline, which is used by the body to repair connective tissues, produce collagen and improve the texture of skin.

2. If you’ve got reflux.

Gelatin reduces heartburn, ulcers and acid reflux by binding gut acids with the foods.

3. If you’re an insomniac.

Research has shown that the amino acid glycine contained in gelatin can actually enhance sleep quality, reduce daytime sleepiness and even improve memory. Try eating one gummy just before bed.

4. If you’ve got anxiety.

Glycine was also found to have anti-anxiety properties. By counterbalancing the effects of the norepinephrine, a chemical released in the brain of individuals experiencing panic or anxiety, glycine has been shown to reduce these feelings.

5. If you want to detox.

Gelatin helps your liver do its detox thing. Yet again it’s the amino acid glycine, which assists the liver in ridding toxins from your body.

6. If you’re constipated.

Gelatin helps things moving smoothly by binding to water and sweeping through the digestive tract.

7. If you’ve got an injury.

It not only reduces inflammation, which can trigger pain receptors and cause stiffness in the joints but it can also help repair small tears in the cartilage.

8. If you want to shed some kilos.

Gelatin is essentially pure protein, which is known to boost metabolism. I don’t advocate for weight-loss obsessing but if you want to curb late night eating try this: stop eating at least 3 hours prior to bedtime and consume at least 1 tablespoon of gelatine powder right before bed.

9. If you’re on a paleo diet.

If you’re on the cavemen diet my guess is you eat a fair bit of muscle meats (I’m talking steaks, chicken breast etc.). This meat contains elevated levels of certain amino acids that can be inflammatory over time (you know those headlines about red meat being harmful?). Gelatine contains two anti-inflammatory amino acids, thus balancing, completing and complementing the other meat sources.

10. If you’ve got an autoimmune disease.

It is exactly those anti-inflammatory properties that make gelatin the autoimmune sufferer’s best friend.

11. If you’ve got chronic stress.

The amino acids contained in gelatin (particularly glycine) modulate certain brain neurotransmitters and work to calm the nervous system.

12. If your hormones are out of whack.

Gelatin has anti-estrogenic effects which can help offset the effects of excess estrogen in the body.” Read more here.

13. If you’re getting older.

Studies show it reduces cellulite and wrinkles. You can read the study here.

14. If you suffer from a leaky gut.

Gelatin is a wonder weapon for gut health. It helps heal tired gut linings by boosting acid production and restoring the mucosal lining of your stomach.

15. If you want to bulk up.

Gelatin helps build lean muscle. You can read more here.
