5 ways to be healthy (without even trying)!

Written By Unknown on Tuesday 6 February 2018 | 10:01

Making massive lifestyle changes all at once can sometimes result in you falling off the healthy-living bandwagon as soon as things become too overwhelming.

Plus, making smaller changes over an extended period of time eventually add up to big changes anyway once the new behaviours become habit. In our experience, we don’t recommend making big changes all at once. For example, we caution people from cutting sugar and carbs out of your diet at the same time, as it can often be too much and we want to give you the best chance of success possible.

These simple changes might seem small, but they’ll have a mighty impact on your overall health…

1. Load up on veggies first.

This is super duper easy – all you have to do is load half of your plate up with veggies – our fave is green veg – and eat this first before getting stuck into your protein and carbs. While we are always conscious of creating balanced meals – full of protein, veggies, carbs and healthy fats – it’s easy to fill up on protein and carbs before you get to your veg. So, dig into your veggies first off to ensure that you’re getting your daily dose.

2. Eat slowly.

It’s way too easy to gobble down your food without thinking, so if you feel hungry and unsatisfied after a meal, try mindful eating. This technique allows you to monitor how your body is feeling and respond to any physical cues. While it might seem obvious, many of us are guilty of scoffing down our dinner in front of the TV, making it a mindlessly consumed meal. Plus, by slowing down, you’ll be able to better gauge when you’re full, rather than just waiting for your plate to be empty.

3. Take the stairs.

Getting the elevator or escalator has become habit for most of us, so this is a reminder to take the stairs when you’re out and about. It might seem tiny, but it’s a great form of incidental exercise that is literally a no-brainer.

4. Use a grocery list.

While the food you buy from the supermarket might not change much week to week, it still helps to write out a grocery list to take to the shops with you. When you write a shopping list, you know exactly what you need from the store, which decreases your chances of coming away with those chocolate cookies. In fact, research has found that shoppers who used grocery lists made better food choices and also had a lower body weight compared to those who didn’t use a shopping list. Plus, you’ll save money too!

5. Ditch sugar for a week.

While eliminating sugar from your diet for a week might seem daunting, it’s actually a great way to experiment with a sugar-free life. And, our newest program called Kickstarter is specifically designed to give you a taste of the low-sugar life in just seven days. While this isn’t enough time to ditch the sweet stuff completely, it’s a great way to dip your toe in. We provide seven days worth of recipes, so you can find out just how good life is without sugar!
