6 reasons men should quit sugar (and not just cos’ their girlfriend told them to!)

Quitting sugar works wonders for all – no matter if you’re a guy or gal…

But, guys have had some particularly great results after completing our 8-Week Program – including increased libido, clearer skin and more stable energy levels. So, if your girlfriend has been trying to get you to kick your sugar habit, here’s what you can look forward to sans sugar…

1. Clear skin.

Consuming sugar actively leads to early ageing – thanks to sugar’s ability to slow down the production of collagen, the protein which keeps your skin supple and soft. And, it can also impact on the severity of acne as it triggers hormonal fluctuations within the body. So, when you ditch sugar, you’ll notice a huge improvement in your skin!

2. Stable energy levels.

Your body is taken on a huge rollercoaster of highs and lows when you consume sugary foods. You get caught in a vicious cycle of cravings, sugar highs, sugar crashes and back to cravings! Ditching the sweet stuff will help to prevent these constant ups and downs and your energy levels will eventually stabilise. As a bonus, you’ll often see a trickle-down effect as your moods and sleeping patterns will also improve once your energy levels rebalance.

3. Gym gains.

Did you know that you don’t actually need to nosh on sugar pre and post workout? So there’s no need to worry about losing progress at the gym after quitting sugar. You’ll actually get more out of your training without sugar – reach for glucose and carbohydrates instead to restore muscle glycogen stores as glucose is transported straight to your cells and muscles, instead of dumping on your liver like fructose does. But don’t just take our word for it… check out Breyten’s story here!

4. Improved libido.

Yep, that’s right – you’ll experience a higher sex drive when you ditch the sweet stuff. Research shows that an overconsumption of sugar actually saps your libido and drives down the production of testosterone, which can lead to a loss of muscle mass and affect reproductive functions. But, it doesn’t end there. Consuming sugar can also lead to leptin resistance. Leptin is the hormone which tells your body that it’s full, but sugar interferes with leptin’s messages and can suppress the production of the hormone. Leptin resistance in men is bad news and has been linked to a drop in testosterone, and with it, libido. So, quit sugar and get your mojo back!

5. A healthy heart.

Heart disease is much more common for men at a younger age, compared to women. While it’s not clear why more middle-aged men suffer from heart attacks and compromised heart health than women, it’s believed that diet and lifestyle play a huge role. One study in particular found that people who consumed 25 per cent or more of their daily calories from sugar, were twice as likely to die of fatal heart disease. So, quit sugar and get your heart healthy, dudes! Your life literally depends on it.

6. Weight loss.

Losing weight is often a side effect of ditching sugar – this is because by cutting the sweet stuff you also cut out processed foods and instead focus on JERFing. In fact, a whopping 91 per cent of males that have completed our 8-Week Program have lost weight! If you need more convincing, simply look to rugby union legend, Peter FitzSimons, who lost 34kg after ditching sugar and alcoholic drinks. Peter revealed that after 30 years of constant yo-yo dieting, he finally found a way of eating that kept him feeling satisfied! Another famous sugar-quitter is American actor, John Goodman – well known for his roles in Roseanne and The Big Lebowski. Goodman shed a huge 45kg after completely overhauling his lifestyle, which included cutting all sugar from his diet.

But, it’s not just celebs that experience such results. Father-of-one, Seymour, quit sugar with our 8-Week Program and lost 32kg – a huge difference from his 107kg starting weight. Not only did he ditch sugar-laden and processed foods, but he also took up cycling after a five year break. And, Seymour’s wife and son joined him on the journey!

So what are you waiting for? Quit sugar with our 8-Week Program and find a healthier and happier you! Plus, your girlfriend will be pretty stoked. Happy wife, happy life, right?
