Is added sugar ruining your weight, skin and energy levels?

Written By Unknown on Thursday 9 November 2017 | 20:40

The addition of sneaky added sugars could be the reason why your energy levels are constantly lagging. Or, why your weight keeps slowly inching up…

While sugar was commonplace for many of us growing up, its detrimental effects on our health has caused many to shy away from it in recent years. So, if you are struggling with skin, weight and energy issues, sugar could be the reason why.

Not only is sugar extremely addictive, but it takes a toll on all areas of your health…

1. Skin.

The sweet stuff has a massive effect on your skin. Ever heard of “sugar face”? This refers to the acne that forms on your face in a very specific pattern. Pimples aside, sugar has also been proven to damage collagen. This protein keeps your skin plump and wrinkle-free. But, a lack of collagen in your body can lead to early ageing and skin sagging!

2. Weight.

Eating excessive amounts of sugar will definitely impact on your waistline. But, if you’ve managed to quit processed food and are still struggling to shift the weight, it could be the sneaky sugars still lurking in your diet. High-fructose fruits and “healthy” sweeteners such as honey are still metabolised in the liver, and when this happens a chemical is released into the brain which suppresses leptin activity. Leptin is the hormone which tells your body that you are full. So, no leptin = no satiety. This is often why people go overboard when eating foods that are high in fructose.

3. Energy.

Do you get sudden bursts of energy but then crash by the time the afternoon rolls around? Sugar is to blame! We have all experienced the huge sugar high that comes after consuming something sweet, but once the feeling fades, you are often left exhausted and your body begins to crave it again. Quitting sugar can help to prevent these rollercoaster energy highs and lows. Once you’re eating whole foods, your energy will balance out, and often you’ll see an improvement in both your moods and sleeping habits.
