We thought buying fresh was always best. But, surprisingly that’s not the case when it comes to fruit.
And, as it turns out, picking up the frozen strawbs (and any other berry) comes with a whole load of benefits.
The health perks are retained.
Because fruit is frozen within hours of being picked, the breakdown of enzymes is stalled, locking in the vitamins and minerals. Fresh fruit on the other hand, can travel for days to get to the supermarket, slowly losing these benefits. This actually makes frozen fruit, well, even fresher than the fresh stuff.
Less added chemicals.
Fresh fruit is often doused in chemicals to keep them looking their best, while produce to be frozen usually has no chemicals added because they’re popped straight in the freezer. That’s a big win for us!
And, they’re cheaper too!
This is probably the best perk – frozen fruit is cheaper than fresh, and it lasts longer (woohoo!). At our local supermarket, frozen strawbs are $20 a kilo cheaper than fresh. Straight into the piggy bank we go…
