Stressed uni students who are reaching for the two-minute noodles, listen up!
We know when you’re studying there are loads of factors that can impact your diet – cramming for that exam you forgot about, sticking to a (super) tight budget and missing your mum’s home cooking – to name just a few.
But, this week we read about a uni in Utah that has just launched wellness programs to teach students how to cook nutritious meals on a budget.
While this incentive hasn’t hit Aussie shores just yet, we’re here to help! Here are our top tips for eating healthy as a student…
1. Stock up on snacks (that aren’t Tim Tams).
Emergency snacks will be your saviour. Try nuts, boiled eggs, make your own muesli bars, or even cookies!
They’re great to have in your bag for those long lectures (or at 3am in the club) when those hunger pangs kick in.
2. Opt for frozen veg.
Not only is frozen veg just as nutritious as fresh produce but it’s cheaper AND being able to pop it back in the freezer means less wastage. Frozen peas and beans are our faves.
3. Don’t be scared of daggy meat.
Cuts like chuck, cheeks, shins or even offal can save your wallet. Plus, it opens you up to a whole new world of slow cooker magic!
4. Meal prep.
Sunday cook-ups. Need we say more?
