3 signs you’re not as healthy as you could be

Written By Unknown on Saturday 29 April 2017 | 21:04

Our bodies are far smarter than we give them credit for.

We are constantly being fed feedback via sensations, ailments… even dreams.

There can be obvious reactions that will give us clear signs that something is not working, like an allergy. But the more subtle messages are often a little trickier to pick up.

It is up to us to harness our awareness and receive these messages so we’re able to find our healthiest us. Here are three common signs to look out for (and how to fix them).

You’re tired all the time.

This can be as a result of the obvious: lack of sleep. But it can also stem from something deeper, like adrenal fatigue or poor thyroid function.

While the obvious solution to many tired folk is coffee, this could actually be a contributing factor! Coffee can place pressure on your adrenals and create acidity in the body, throwing off your thyroid and general wellbeing.

Stepping away from the old cup of joe and implementing a more soothing beverage to harness your energy and support your adrenals can help. Try a matcha latte or a chai made from real spices and black tea instead.

You’re always anxious.

Anxiousness is not our natural state. So if it is reoccurring in your day-to-day life, it’s time to take a closer look.

Diet plays a huge role in how we feel. Sugar and artificial sweeteners negatively impact the integrity and health of gut microbiome, which in turn can alter the function of the brain.

And when our brain is fueled by sugar, it reverts to a primitive, predatory survival mode, adversely affecting our moods, mental functioning and overall health. It’s basically a double whammy of sucky feelings.

Ditch the sweet stuff and increase healthy fats such as avocado, coconut oil, raw nuts and seeds to keep you satiated and balance your blood sugar levels. Including probiotic foods like sauerkraut, kimchi and kefir in your diet can assist in bringing good flora back into the gut.

You’re constantly bloated.

Bloating can be an indication that digestion is out of whack. It can be triggered by food sensitivities, unbalanced gut flora, excess alcohol, sugar, and prescription drugs. Healing the gut is important as healthy digestion is a crucial part of a healthy body.

Make sure you’re nourishing your body with three meals per day that include plenty of veg and clean protein such as eggs, fish and meat, as well as some good fats.

Include lots of colour and limit processed foods. Reaching for foods in their most natural form is key to eating right. The less packaging the better!

If any of these symptoms persist after you try these small changes, it’s worth checking in with your healthcare practitioner.
