3 waste-free podcasts we’re listening to RN

Written By Unknown on Wednesday 7 February 2018 | 14:00

As waste-free February continues for the IQS team, we decided to further our waste-free knowledge with the help of a few podcasts…

We love a good podcast – how good is it to plug in and delve deep into a subject? – so we’re harnessing the power of this technology to learn more about the waste-free movement and find out how we can work towards generating as little waste as possible!

Join us by listening to these three waste warrior’s podcasts…

TED Talks Daily – What if you could turn plastic trash into cash?

Who doesn’t love TED Talks? They’re inspiring, educational and downright interesting. And, thanks to the miracle of technology, you don’t have to be glued to a screen to view episodes – you can also listen to the audio via their podcast. This particular episode, presented by David Katz, tackles the plastic issue but also offers a unique solution.

While we’re doing our best to reduce our waste personally, it’s encouraging to see companies like David’s, The Plastic Bank, taking steps to not only minimise the amount of plastic waste that is polluting our waterways but also develop a process for monetising plastic collection, benefitting some of the world’s most disadvantaged people. Give this TED Talk a listen to discover just how David is doing this!

War on Waste.

You may have seen the Aussie documentary of the same name only last year – we did and frankly, it was life-changing. Not only did host Craig Reucassel present the information in an engaging and friendly manner, but he also covered everything from food waste, fast fashion and plastic waste – if you haven’t seen it, you NEED to!

But now, Craig also has a podcast which features comedian Wendy Harmer and together they tackle some of the most important issues surrounding waste and just how we can play a part in reducing it. It’s funny, informative and downright doable!

A Zero-Waste Lifestyle – Bea Johnson of Zero Waste Home.

French mother-of-two, Bea Johnson, is somewhat of a celebrity in the waste-free world. Since 2008, she – along with her husband, two sons and their pet pooch – has been completely zero-waste. In fact, the entirety of their household waste for 2017 fit in one small jar! Bea has since written a book called Zero Waste Home and uses her blog to encourage others to try the zero-waste lifestyle.

In this episode of the Giving Back Podcast, Bea joins host Rob Lowe and she talks us through her pared-back life, including her five principles for zero-waste – Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rot. It’s incredibly motivating to hear Bea talk about her life, which she describes as rich in experiences, not things. Prepare to be inspired!
