5 reasons we love Meatless Monday

Written By Unknown on Sunday 8 October 2017 | 12:09

You’ve probably seen the trend #MeatlessMonday popping up here and there.

We’ve wholeheartedly embraced Meatless Monday, because it means we can start the week with our best foot forward. And, we think you should jump on board too. Here’s why…

1. You’ll become more creative in the kitchen.

If you tend to stick to standard “meat and three veg” dinners, Meatless Monday could be a blessing in disguise. Put your chef hat on and get inventive with spice combos and flavours that you wouldn’t normally try! BBQ Pulled Mushroom Sanga anyone?

2. Save some cash.

Meat always tends to be the pricey purchase in our weekly shop. So, what better way to save some money than to cut back? Don’t worry, you won’t be protein-less. Swap in some legumes, dairy (hello, haloumi) or some nuts and seeds. This Warming Ayurvedic Dahl could even be dinner tonight.

3. Improve your health.

Turns out, not only can eating less meat help with weight management, but adopting a semi-vegetarian diet (AKA a few meatless days) has been proven to improve metabolic health, blood pressure and reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes. All those health benefits from just cutting back on meat? Count us in!

4. Save some time.

Say goodbye to waiting for that roast to cook. In fact, all of the meals on our 7-Day Reboot can be whipped up in just 30 minutes – giving you more time to put your feet up and watch The Bachelorette (or nag at the kids to tidy up!).

5. You could live longer…

Yep, you read right! A study of 11,000 people over 20 years, found that death rates were lower in non-meat eaters than in those who ate meat. We’re not saying you need to go completely vegetarian, but reducing your meat intake slightly and being more mindful of what you’re eating is a great way to stay fit and healthy.

If you’re after a week’s worth of meat-free meals to get you started, check out the vegetarian option of our 7-Day Reboot.
