4 things that are trending right now (that your gran’s been doing forever)

Trends seem to come and go.

But you might be surprised to find out that these things that are considered “oh-so-hot right now”, were actually mastered ages ago by our grandmas, grannies and nanas who’ve been doing them for yonks…

1. Fermenting foods.

Kombucha, kimchi, kefir… while we like to think it was this generation that created such great gut-healing products, your gran has been putting kimchi on her toast since way back. In fact, kimchi originated in the 3rd century, and while it didn’t involve so much cabbage as it does now, it’s definitely been around for a while!

2. Using apple cider vinegar.

Back in the day, apple cider vinegar was good for more than just bloating and gut health – put it on your scalp for dandruff, use it as a face wash, drink it for heartburn, to combat a cold, or drink it even if you don’t have a cold (just in case you get one). It was the answer to pretty much everything, and it still is.

3. Veggie gardens.

Hanging your veggie garden on the wall of your apartment may be the newest interior design trend, but growing herbs and veggies from the comfort of your home has been happening since the beginning of time. Not only is it a cheap and easy way to have food on hand all the time, but you’ll definitely experience a sense of pride from nurturing those veggie babies from seed to plate.

4. Making broth.

The wellness warriors of the world love a good broth (in fact our nutritionist Liv whipped up a big batch last week!), and we bet your gran would have been the first to cook up a pot of chicken soup when you were feeling a lil’ off colour. The truth is, the perks of bone broth aren’t a new discovery, but putting it in a mason jar and charging through the roof for it is!

To be honest, your grandma was cool before cool was cool…
