- On Monday, New Zealand political parties held a conference to debate the potential sugar tax.
- Sadly, National, the party currently in Government, didn’t even bother to show up.
- Jamie Oliver sent a video to the meeting urging the Government to support the movement. We’re with you all the way Jamie!
Jamie puts it simply – New Zealand ranks as the third most obese nation in the OECD and it’s about time something was done to address this issue.
“New Zealand, like Britain, has got some of the most obese children on the planet. It’s disgusting, it’s nuts,” said Jamie in his video to the NZ Government.
We love that the celebrity chef has continued to push for a sugar tax worldwide, which has now been accepted as the new norm in countries like France, Portugal and Ireland – with many more countries to follow.
Will NZ be next? Jamie likes to think so – and so do we!
