It’s strange to think that it was just five years ago that Sarah started IQS…
In those five years, we’ve evolved into a global quitting sugar movement. And helped 1.2 million people quit the sweet stuff and transform their lives.
We’ve loved watching our community grow to cities all over the world. Here are just a few stories from sugar-quitters abroad… Is it time you joined them?
Marina – Kenya
For the past four years, Maria has been living Nairobi, Kenya, with her husband and two daughters. She originally quit sugar to combat bloating and stomach issues. And she’s never looked back.
“I love the abundance of vegetables in Kenya,” says Marina. “A kitchen staple is a green veg called Sukuma Wiki, which literally translates as ‘stretch the week’. It’s ridiculously cheap and super nutritious!”
But it can be tricky for Marina to find certain ingredients, like rice malt syrup. “So we sweeten up our food with fresh fruit instead.”

Julie – Italy
Julie discovered I Quit Sugar about three years ago and became a fast fan.
“I used to always have a ‘Cappuccino et Brioche’ for breakfast (so Italian!)” says Julie. “Imagine how hard it is to avoid sugar in my country when we start the day with something packed with it!”
Since quitting sugar, Julie knows how to eat without feeling restricted. “I feel like I am an example for those who want to change their life. Cooking healthy meals for other people makes me feel like I am doing something good for their health also!”

Laura – UK
Laura lives on The Isle of Wight, a tiny island off the coast of the UK. She always knew she ate a bit of sugar, but it was only after she discovered the I Quit Sugar: 8-Week Program that she realised just how much. And how much better she felt without it.
“Sugar still isn’t recognised as being the real problem in the UK, says Laura. “It’s so readily available. Sweet shops, milkshake cafés and ice cream kiosks are opening all the time. Talk about temptation!”
But British food has its perks, she says. “The best thing is without a good old fashioned Sunday roast dinner! But homemade crumpets and tea are a close second.”
Laura whipped up a batch of our Coconut Fluff Pancakes from one of the very first rounds of the Program. They’ve become a recipe staple in her household.
Jenny – New Zealand
Jenny discovered the Program three years ago just after her little girl Katie was born. Now her whole family is thriving without the sweet stuff.
“New Zealanders are super cool people, but as a nation we tend to have an odd reaction to people who are doing something a bit ‘different’,” says Jenny. “We got a few stares at first, but we found with a bit of explanation people were okay with it.”
“We do love the growing trend in NZ around organic, seasonal and local food. Basically, everything we’re about!”

Marisa – Sweden
Marisa intuitively suspected that sugar needed to go for her to feel my best, but she was apprehensive at first. “So I tried some of the recipes in I Quit Sugar For Life, signed up for the Program… and I was hooked.”
Initially, she thought Swedish climate would be her healthy eating downfall. “The winters are extreme and most people don’t want quinoa salads and green smoothies when it’s -20°C outside!” she says.
“But I found the heartier IQS dishes perfect for the climate. I am a huge fan of roasted vegetables, for example, and there are lots of veggie IQS dishes that incorporate them!”
