What can meat eaters learn from plant-based diets?

Written By Unknown on Tuesday 7 November 2017 | 19:03

The great thing about quitting sugar is that you can do it no matter what your dietary preferences are.

Our 8-Week Program caters for both vegetarians and omnivores because as we know – what works for one, may not work for another. No matter what diet you prescribe to however, the evidence on sugar itself is pretty sound and whether you’re vego or love your meat, you too can successfully ditch the sweet stuff.

But whether you describe yourself as a vegan, freegan, meat lover, vegetarian, pescetarian or flexitarian… there are also a number of important lessons we can learn from more plant-based diets.

Celebrate veggies.

To build the perfect plate, veggies should be the hero of the dish. From there we add protein, healthy fats and carbohydrates. By default, the plates of those who subscribe to a more plant-based diet are filled mostly with veg! And their secret? They know just how delicious and satisfying veggies can be!

Embrace variety and be creative.

With no animal protein on the plate, vegetarians are often more creative in the kitchen. And, they’re generally the ones picking up the strange looking veg at the markets, excited to go home and experiment. Not only is variety essential when it comes to your overall health, but you’ll also find you become a better and more confident cook the more you experiment. The bonus is too, you may discover a new ingredient that you really like.

Legumes… the right way.

Poor old legumes have received a bit of a bad rap recently with the paleo fanatics of the world declaring them to be less than healthful. And yes, while some people find them more difficult to digest, vegetarians and plant-based eaters often rely on legumes as a good source of quality protein and fibre. But, the key is in the preparation! By rinsing, soaking and activating them – you can get maximum nutrition with minimum digestive discomfort.

It’s a lifestyle.

The truth is, your diet can have a huge effect not only on your health, but the planet too. For many plant-based eaters, their lifestyle choices reflect their beliefs and passion towards sustainability. So for all of us, the key is not just in deciding whether or not to eat meat, but also considering how we eat it.

Hummus. Nuff said.

What is a world without hummus?
