Drinking just 2 sugary drinks a week is hurting your heart!

  • The World Health Organisation estimated that 19 million deaths each year are linked to cardiometabolic conditions, so, maybe it’s time to look at our sweet habits…
  • And, it was found that drinking just one sugary beverage a day can contribute to high blood pressure!

It’s time to love your heart – and a recent review says a good way to start is by ditching the sugary drinks.

The review, published in the Journal of Endocrine Society, found that regularly drinking sugar-sweetened beverages (such as soda and juice) contributes to the development of high blood pressure and metabolic syndrome.

Worse still, researchers discovered that consuming just two sugar-sweetened beverages a week ultimately raises the risk of developing heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Gulp.

Interestingly, when experts examined the 36 academic studies included in the review, they highlighted how fructose is particularly detrimental to heart health, which is what we’ve been saying for years!

“The findings demonstrate there is a clear need for public education about the harmful effects of excess consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages,” says senior author, M. Faadiel Essop. We couldn’t agree more.
