Here’s how to master the art of self-care Sunday!

Written By Unknown on Saturday 16 September 2017 | 13:00

If you’re feeling frazzled, fatigued and in desperate need of a little self-care, you’re not alone!

But if your next holiday feels like a mile away – and you can’t bring yourself to fork over your hard-earned paycheck at the local day spa – here’s how to create your own health retreat at home, on a budget.

Kick out your family/partner/flatmates and convert your home into a sanctuary this Sunday. You deserve it!

1. Cook a nourishing meal.

Sometimes self-care is just as simple as cooking a wholesome meal for yourself. Especially if you’ve had one of those stressful weeks when takeaway has been all too tempting.

Make something simple, like a roast veggie traybake or a slow-cooked stew (you only have to press a button). You’ll feel better before you know it.

2. Make a face mask.

You don’t need a bunch of fancy ingredients to give your skin some loving (don’t even bother with avocado because they’re too expensive to not eat, right?). Instead, try inexpensive oatmeal and milk for gentle moisturising and exfoliation. Don’t forget the cucumbers!

3. Brew a detoxifying drink.

Hydration is the key to glowing skin and good health. Sip on a frosty glass of gut-healthy kombucha to refresh your spirits and revitalise your body from within. (Hint: if you drink this out of a cocktail glass, it’ll feel much more like a swanky spa.)

4. Have a bath.

As well as being super relaxing, a steaming hot bath may help you sweat out environmental toxins. Add Epsom salts, your favourite essential oils and some candles for a truly luxurious experience.

5. Meditate.

Studies have shown that meditation can be very useful for combatting stress. But you don’t need to go to the yoga studio for some quiet time. Download a meditation app or check out our easy meditation for beginners guide.
