Want to get your partner to quit sugar (without noticing)?

Written By Unknown on Sunday 20 August 2017 | 23:01

When you first embark on your sugar-free journey, no doubt there are a bunch of questions and fears that’ll run through your mind.

How will I cope with cravings? Will I be chained to the kitchen? How can I get my partner on the sugar-free bandwagon?

We’ve found that quitting sugar is much easier when you’ve got the support of your family and friends. But, we also know from experience, that preaching about the benefits of ditching the sweet stuff is unlikely to be met with enthusiasm.

The results of a sugar-free way of life speak for themselves, but if you need a little help twisting your loved one’s arm, here are some simple (not-so-sneaky) tactics to get them on board.

Simple swaps.

Instead of drawing attention to your new sugar-free lifestyle, make fuss-free swaps to pantry staples. Quietly rid your cupboards of packet marinades and sauces, opting to make your own sugar-free versions instead. Switch from jam to 100 per cent natural nut butter, ditch sugary cereals and bulk out family faves like spag bol or curry with nutrient-dense lentils or grated veg.

Invite them into the kitchen.

Rather than claiming the kitchen as your domain, invite your other half to cook with you! Men (in particular) often have the preconceived notion that sugar-free means flavour-free or that cooking healthy hearty meals is laborious. Well, we’re more than happy to bust these myths and in fact, our new eBook, I Quit Sugar: The Dude Approved Cookbook, is packed with 35 (deliciously simple) recipes that even the hungriest of blokes would devour. How does Slow-Cooked Korean Pulled Pork sound?

Be prepared with sugar-free snacks.

Just because you’ve removed sugar from your diet, doesn’t mean you or your partner need to go hungry. Have cheese slices, nuts and veggie sticks on hand for when cravings strike and keep a stash of sugar-free brownies or bliss balls in your freezer for when you need a taste of something sweet. Trust us, he’lll love the look of our Beer Brownies!
