How to get your shopping done in 30 minutes (or less!)

Hands up who loves going to the supermarket? Hmmm…that’s what we thought.

To make your next trip to the supermarket a breeze here are 6 simple tips and tricks to help you speed up your shop.

Who’s gonna handle the supermarket like a boss? You are!

1. Create a smarter shopping list

Everyone knows that making a list will help you get your shopping done faster. But you can up your supermarket game to expert level by organising your list into categories.

A categorical list means you’re less likely to forget something and need to backtrack through the store. Talk about a total time waster!

We divide our list into 7 categories – fruit & veggies, deli, meat, dairy, pantry, home and freezer. Sounds super nerdy, but it totally works.

2. Timing is everything

20 checkouts but only 4 open…am I right? The time you shop makes a huge difference to how long you spend waiting at the checkout.

Supermarket research shows if you want to beat the crowds, it’s best to shop early in the week. Need to brave the supermarket on the weekend? Sundays are your next best option.

3. Save the best for last

Ever popped into the supermarket for milk and spent $125? Turns out the bananas made you do it.

Putting fresh stuff at the front of the store is a deliberate ploy to make us feel good because when we feel good we stick around and buy more.

Next time you shop, give the frozen peas some love and start at the other end of the supermarket. It may just speed up your shop and save you some cash.

4. Go it alone

Doing the groceries with kids in tow is mission impossible.

For the best chances of sticking to your list and getting your shop done fast, go solo.

Can’t avoid taking the kids? Keep them on task with their own mini shopping lists, and stay away from dangerous territory. The confectionary aisle is just a toddler meltdown waiting to happen.

5. Pump it up

Plug in and listen to your own tunes while you shop. Slow music actually encourages you to shop for longer and, you guessed it, spend more cash.

Get your shop done faster by pumping up some booty shaking tunes. It will get you moving and drown out those soppy supermarket ballads and annoying jingles. We know the prices are down, thank you!

6. Shop local

Got a great set of local shops near you? Not only is shopping local better for the environment, with no trolleys or crazy car park to battle, you will be in and out in no time.
