While we’re all for the occasional glass of red when living a low-sugar life, we really encourage drinking in moderation.
In fact, sometimes it can be really beneficial to take a break from the booze altogether, so you can check in with your physical and emotional wellbeing.
Did you know you can still drink alcohol when you quit sugar?
You just need to be smart about the booze you choose, and stick to just a glass or two at a time.
Red wine, beer and dry spirits like vodka are all very low in sugar, so these are our go-tos when required. Pick your mixers with care though; did you know tonic has two teaspoons of sugar per 100ml?!
But you might want to say bye to booze (at least for a while).
Sure, alcohol tends to be pretty low in sugar. But too much is associated with a lot of other health issues. Not to mention it’s an addictive substance.
On the flip side, taking a break from boozing could mean you could:
- Say goodbye hangovers! And the unhealthy food choices they so often spawn.
- Give your liver a break. Alcohol is a hepatotoxin, meaning too much can really tax this important organ.
- Shed few extra kilos. Alcohol is notoriously high in empty calories.
- Enjoy clearer skin. Boozing can have a pretty negative impact on your “glow”.
- Decrease your risk of mental health issues and depression.
- Save a little cash. A bottle of sparkling water is a lot cheaper than a bottle of wine!
