Have our kids been abandoned by the Aussie Government?

Written By Unknown on Thursday, 6 April 2017 | 18:58

  • There is currently no national childhood obesity management program available to the Australian public, says a new report.
  • The one in four Aussie kids who are now overweight or obese have nowhere to go to for support.
  • Left unchecked, the report estimates one in three Australian children will be overweight or obese by 2025.

Will somebody please think of the children?!

New research presented at the World Congress on Public Health in Melbourne has found the level of Government support to Aussie families with obese kids is woefully “inadequate”.

“We hear so much about childhood obesity in the media, yet if a family want to get some support from a health professional there really isn’t a clear place for them to go,” Dr Helen Vidgen from the Faculty of Health at Queensland University of Technology told AAP.

The evidence suggests these programs do work. So what are we waiting for?! If the Government is serious about addressing the obesity epidemic, it needs to put the kids first, or we’ll all suffer for it.

Would you like to see a national support program for obese kids?
