- Australian soft drink sales nosedived 2.9 per cent last financial year.
- Major supermarkets including Coles, Woolworths, Foodworks and IGA lost estimated $80 million in sales.
- Imagine what we could do if the Government implemented anti-sugar policy!
Here’s proof that even the mere conversation about the health effects of sugar has rippling consequences.
The stuff just isn’t selling like it used to. In fact, out of 91 grocery categories in decline last year, soft drink alone makes up a whopping one-fifth of the lost sales. Ouch.
So, what’s changed? Well, according to the new report, “unprecedented negativity exists amid concerns that soda consumption is a big contributor to poor dietary habits and weight gain.”
Now if only we could get the Aussie Government to back these growing concerns with actual policy (come on sugar tax!), this could mark the beginning of the end for Big Soda.
Are you happy to see soft drink sales in decline?
