Always hungry? The one easy trick that will help you stay fuller for longer

Written By Unknown on Tuesday 24 January 2017 | 22:02

Imagine only wanting to eat when your body needed food and always being able to stop when you’ve had enough…

Sadly, that’s just not the case for a lot of us. The rise of highly-palatable, sugary and nutrient-poor processed food means we’re often living from craving to craving.

But you can get your appetite back to its factory settings by following this one easy trick to stay fuller for longer…

Say no to sugar!

Think about this: when you hit the 3 PM hunger slump, do you immediately think about chocolate bars and Krispy Kremes?

Well, that’s only natural. We actually evolved to seek out sugar for fast energy. But that was back when the most we’d find at one time was a couple of berries (or a beehive if we were lucky).

Plus, fructose (the sugar we’re trying to quit) releases “reward hormones” that signal happiness. Yep. It may also reduce the hormone leptin (which helps you feel full) and reduce your body’s natural suppression of ghrelin (the hormone which signals hunger).

And if that wasn’t enough to freak your body out, crappy, refined carbs spike your blood sugar levels and make them crash just as quickly. This makes us hungry, grumpy and craving the next sugar hit… and so the cycle continues.

Find your true appetite.

One of the things we hear most from people who’ve done the I Quit Sugar: 8-Week Program is that they are no longer ravenous. No more cravings, snacking or mid-afternoon runs to the office vending machine.

“I’m no longer craving food all day and the 3pm slump is a distant memory. I also find food in general tastes better!” says Liz, who lost 16kg (and her sugar addiction) on the Program.

And, as well as cutting out the addictive stuff, our meal plans are also full of nourishing vegetables, proteins and fats so you’ll feel nice and satisfied all day long.

But, if you’re still a little peckish (it happens), we have plenty of healthy snack ideas, too. Just check out the delicious recipe below!
