As each new season rolls around, there’s always a buzz of excitement at IQS HQ.
That’s because a new season means a whole smorgasbord of new seasonal produce to cook with! We love buying seasonal produce whenever we can – it’s better for the body, the budget and the planet. ‘Nuff said.
As the weather heats up in the Southern Hemisphere, these are the summer ingredients we’ll be stocking our veggie crispers and fruit bowls with. And what we’ll be making with them!
1. Limes.
Limes have so many more uses than garnishing summer mocktails (though they’re great for that, too).
They offer a healthy hit of vitamin C (good for staving off reemerging scurvy!) as well as a bunch of other essential vitamins and minerals. We’ll be squeezing ours over fresh salads, Mexican-inspired dishes and Asian stir-frys.

2. Berries.
Berries might just be our favourite fruits. Packed with antioxidants, they’re also very low in fructose (the sugar we’re really trying to quit).
Add your berries to baking recipes, serve as a snack with nuts and natural yoghurt, or, you know, eat them with pizza for breakfast. (Don’t knock this recipe ‘til you’ve tried it!)

3. Cucumbers.
At about 95 per cent water, cucumbers are incredibly hydrating. They’re also a great source of B vitamins and vitamin K.
Chuck them into salads, chop them into a cooling tzatziki or whizz into a morning smoothie and stay cool as a cucumber all summer long.

4. Coconut oil.
Or coconut anything, really (except you, coconut sugar). Coconut oil is particularly great for baking tasty summer treats, adding a bit of healthy fat to your smoothies or rubbing all over your skin after a lazy day at the beach!
Seriously though, does anything say summertime more than a (secretly healthy) bounty bar?

5. Peaches.
Peaches and other stone fruit really come into their own in the summer months.
Sweet and juicy, they make a great sweet addition to salads, a tasty (low-sugar) barbecue condiment or (maybe our favourite summer treat) a refreshing popsicle. Enjoy!
