10 easy ways to reduce bloating fast

Do you often feel swollen, crampy and uncomfortable in the belly? You might be suffering from bloating. But no fear – here are some easy tips to reduce bloating fast, courtesy of EatLiveGlow. Now, we’re off to brew a pot of peppermint tea!

***

1. Apple cider vinegar.

Start the day with a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar – it’s not got the greatest taste, though, so try juicing it with ginger and an apple or peeled lemon. If you don’t have a juicer, blend the above with water, or just swallow it quickly down!

2. Vegetables.

Increase your intake of diuretic vegetables like watercress, celery, asparagus and cucumber. Not only will your skin look great but you will naturally retain less water, too.

3. Probiotics.

Try taking a healthy probiotic to improve your digestion – your local health food shop can advise you on which will be best for you, as there are many different sorts.

4. Peppermint tea.

Mint tea is super refreshing especially if you are cutting down on dairy products. Try brewing a few sprigs of fresh mint (we love combining peppermint and spearmint) sweetened with a little raw honey.

5. Fresh herbs.

Increase your intake of herbs like fresh parsley and coriander. Coriander and cumin seeds are also good when added to soups to help you digest them.

6. Water.

Drink water before or after (and not during) meals, to help your digestive acids function optimally.

7. Low salt.

Avoid salty foods as these can make you retain water. Read labels and look for hidden sodium. Use low sodium stocks in cooking.

8. Fresh fruits.

Try to eat fruit on its own, not just before or after a meal, as you digest different foods in different ways.

9. Intolerance testing.

If you suspect a certain food causes a bad reaction, have an intolerance test done. Ask your GP or look for a local naturopathic doctor.

10. Chew properly.

Eat slowly and chew your food carefully. Gulping food down can cause gas and bloating.
