The ultimate guide to Sydney in the summertime (by those who know it best)

Written By Unknown on Thursday 15 December 2016 | 16:57

Ahhh, Sydney in the summer time.

We might be a little biased because we live here. But between the beautiful beaches, gorgeous walking tracks and vibrant eating haunts, it doesn’t get much better than Sydney when the days are long and the weather is warm.

Born and raised Sydneysider, new to town or just passing through? You’ll want to add these tips from some of our best health and wellness mates to your “must dos” this summer.

(Just so you know, this isn’t a sponsored post. These are all genuine recommendations from Sydney’s wellness community. Enjoy!)

Jessica Sepel, health blogger, nutritionist and wellness coach.

Lox, Stock & Barrel in Bondi have the most incredible, generous salads. My favourite is the roast pumpkin with quinoa, loads of greens and smoked ocean trout. Plus a side of crispy Brussels sprouts of course!”

Julie Stevanja, founder of Stylerunner.

“My favourite yoga studio at the moment is Humming Puppy in Redfern. I’m obsessed with the Yoga Nidra class – it’s perfect for winding down and relaxing. You almost feel like a new person afterwards!”

Guy Turland (and Mark Alston), co-founders of Bondi Harvest.

“I love Bondi but let’s be honest, in summer it get way too crazy. I like to find peace and quiet on the Tamarama north rocks. It’s a little harder to get to but worth the work. I usually take a blanket down, some water and snacks spend the day chilling out, exploring the caves and swimming.”

Sarah & Emmet Condon, Remedy Kombucha co-founders.

“If you’re looking to entertain the kids, there’s an amazing playground with a fun water play area in the Darling Quarter precinct. It’s nice and close to Grill’d at Harbourside too, so you can follow it up with a healthy burger washed down with a kombucha!”

Lola Berry, nutritionist and yoga teacher.

Proteini in Darlinghurst is brillo for a sugar-free brekkie. They do ace caveman bowls, loads of sugar-free smoothie bowls and even paleo protein pancakes! Their ginger turmeric latte is unreal.

“If you’re just visiting Sydney, book a few nights at Bondi Yoga House for an urban retreat. Try their cooking demos and yoga classes (with a dip in the ocean straight after!).”

Tedy Altree-Williams, founder of organic coconut yoghurt producers Coco Tribe.

“The Coco Tribe factory is in Marrickville, so I love supporting friends in the area who support us! My top place for healthy eats and great coffee in summer is Two Chaps, as well as the new wholefoods cafe, Warren & Holt.”

I’m currently loving FOLONOMO restaurant in Surry Hills. There’s a beautiful cool courtyard out the back. And 100 per cent of proceeds go to charity. Double boon.

“Oh and swimming from one end of Bondi beach to the other when the surf is flat. No better way to start a Sydney summer morning really.”

Greg Stark, personal trainer and founder of Better Being.

“Some say I’m addicted to The Boathouse cafés in Balmoral, Shelly Beach and Palm Beach. I love the fresh seasonal menu and beautiful water views. My breakfast favourite is the veggie bowl (though I occasionally throw in some bacon).

“After breakfast my wife and I love to stroll along the Balmoral to Taronga walk or, if we’re feeling a little more adventurous, the Spit to Manly. Nothing beats the views!”

Richie Northcott, founder and director of sustainable design company Fresh Prince.

“If you’re a fan of hiking, the walk to Upper Gledhill Falls in Ku-Ring-Gai National Park is a must. Adventurous folk can climb down to the falls for a swim, well worth it! Check out Resolute Beach while you’re there. It’s totally secluded looks onto barrenjoey headland. Beautiful!”

Tali Shine, founder of Tali Cosmetics.

“During the week in summer I meet girlfriends at La Piadina in Double Bay (there’s also one in Bondi). They make amazing almond milk frappes and kamut piadinas! We then walk from Double Bay to Rose Bay. The stretch of water along New South Head Road is so peaceful and my favourite view in Australia.”

Elise McKillop, food stylist, graphic designer and IQS Ambassador.

“My favourite place to visit is this funky vegetarian café in opposite Cronulla Beach called Pilgrims. The Millennium Burger is to die for – think curried lentil pattie, fried onion, avocado, lettuce, beetroot, cucumber, sprouts and tahini dressing all jammed between a wholemeal roll!”
