How to get your kids to eat healthy

Written By Unknown on Sunday 17 September 2017 | 23:01

Can your kids sniff out a broccoli floret from a mile away? Or perhaps your little one likes to drench their food in tomato sauce?

If you’re trying to encourage your children to ditch the Doritos and enjoy a few more whole foods in their diet, we understand how it can sometimes feel like a constant battle. While everyone (and every child) has different taste buds, these tips can help you get your little ones on board the sugar-free train too…

Set the best example.

First and foremost, it’s essential to lead the way when it comes to healthy, sugar-free food. Put simply, where you go, your kids will follow and that relates just as much to what they put in their mouth as it does to their behaviour in general. So, if you create a home environment where fresh fruits and veggies, whole unprocessed foods and cooking is the norm, then you’ll likely find your kids will simply accept that that’s the way forward.

Get cooking… together!

We’ve spoken before about how important it is to get your little ones into the kitchen because it’s true – the more they’re involved in the creation and preparation of their own food, the more likely they’ll eat it without complaint. Peeling veggies, weighing and measuring ingredients and stirring, mashing or mixing are all tasks your kids will be more than happy to make their own.

When in doubt, grate it.

If you’re still struggling to get that chunk of celery past your little one’s nose, make your grater your best friend. Carrots, sweet potato, zucchini, beetroot… these can all be grated and popped into slices, stews, frittatas and brownies with ease!
