The BEST ways to use up that jar of rice malt syrup

Written By Unknown on Wednesday, 2 August 2017 | 13:04

So, you bought a jar of our Organic Rice Malt Syrup and now you’re keen to find out what you can do with it – right?

Well, trust us… this little jar of goodness will soon become a kitchen staple. From adding a touch of sweetness to your baking to making your fave marinade nice and sticky, it’s as versatile as it is delicious.

But first, a quick note on rice malt syrup.

RMS is a sometimes food. Yes, it’s fructose-free, which is why we use it in our occasional treats, but any refined sugar can spike blood sugar levels. Luckily, it lasts ages so you can use small amounts over time.

1. Use it in baked goods.

You can make delicious brownies, cakes, cookies, slices and more. The catch? Hunt down a recipe that uses rice malt syrup, because we’ve learnt the hard way that swapping sugar 1:1 doesn’t work! (However, it’s usually a good sub for honey or maple syrup.)

2. Add it to gummies and treats.

It’s even easier to sweeten gelatin gummies and ice cream with RMS as the texture generally won’t be affected. Try our Golden Happy Times ice blocks, Turmeric Protein Bombs or go all out with this show-stopping cheesecake…

3. Sweeten soft drink alternatives.

We know how hard it can be when you’re weaning yourself off soft drinks but still want a sweet, fizzy kick. So, if fresh fruit just ain’t cutting it or you’re entertaining, a teaspoon of RMS will take your infused water and mocktails to the next level.

4. Caramelise meat and veg.

Most of the time, savoury food should be… well, savoury. But on occasion (hello, Char Sui Pork Ribs and “Honey-roasted” Pumpkin) – RMS provides a great fructose-free alternative.

5. Make your own kitchen staples.

Food manufacturers will put sugar in anything, so here’s your opportunity to take control and make your own kitchen staples. Use up your RMS in big batches of kombucha, “Nut-Ella”, pickles, tomato sauce and other condiments.
